Who Has the World’s Most Dangerous Weapon?

14. Schwerer Gustav

Shotgun? Rifle? Machine gun? They are nothing compared to this weapon. Schwerer Gustav was indeed the mother of all guns back in the days.

It might not shoot as many rounds as machine gun does, but one round was enough to tear down a fort. And that is why the German developed this railway gun back in the 1930s. Krupp designed this particular weapon to destroy the main forts of French Maginot Line then.

Schwerer Gustav fired a 80-centimeter caliber up to 47,000 meters away. It needed around thirty minutes between every round. But one single shot weighed for seven tons. That was enough to destroy the forts.

Unfortunately, this weapon was destroyed after the Germans losing the World War II. Its remains were discovered from time to time but its whereabouts remain unknown.

If only modern military forces kept developing the idea of Schwerer Gustav, we could have had a way more powerful and modern railway gun. But they are more interested in developing more advanced weapons: nuclear bombs.
