7. Dior (1946)
Although the House of Dior was founded in 1946 , the brand celebrates 1947 as the opening year. This is because On 12 February 1947, Dior launched his first Spring/Summer collection. Christian Dior was responsible for the revival of the 20th century fashion.
Before his success as a designer, Christian Dior served in the French Army and worked as an art dealer and illustrator and studied political science at Paris Institute of Political Studies.
However, he found success at the age of 41, being financially backed by wealthy businessman Marcel Boussac.
His New Look, he brought femininity back to life with its excessive fabric in a post-war period of austerity and its taste of glamour after years of suppression. After that, he dominated Vogue’s collections report for a decade.
In 1947 Vogue wrote that “his ideas were fresh and put over with great authority.” In his memoirs Dior by Dior (1957) he stated that “The prime need of fashion is to please and attract” and that “Uniformity is the mother of boredom.”
