11. Bespoke-designed brakes.
There is a reason why there are two main pedals in cars: throttle and brake. Some car enthusiasts often forget the fact that braking is as important as throttling.
In car racing, for example, if you don’t execute your break well or if you miss your braking point, then you will lose time, or position to another driver, or worse: going off track and do not finish. That is why braking system should be considered as important as the car’s powertrain and top speed.
NIO EP9 is equipped with bespoke brakes. Because of what the car has to offer in terms of performance, it needs specially-designed brakes to balance things up. And NextEV NIO collaborates with Alcon to manufacture this particular part of the car.
The front discs are 408 x 40 mm CCM-R. While the rear discs are 408 x 36 mm CCM-R. And in addition to that, the car has 6-pot bespoke caliper. With such features, NIO EP9’s brake torque capability is two times more than GT3 car’s.
