11. Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa ($16,390,000)
With this car, Ferrari did not just win races. It dominated some of the World Sports Car Championships such as the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans in late 1950s and early 1960s.
Thus, it should come as no surprise that one buyer was willing to spend over $16 million for the car’s prototype. He won it at Gooding & Company auction in California, United States five years ago. And that was not the first time the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa broke a world record of auctioned car.
Back in 2009, another prototype was also sold for a staggering amount of money. Auctioned at RM Auctions in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, it went for $12.4 million.
Testa Rossa itself means “Red Head” in Italian. This describes the car’s distinctive feature, which are the red-painted valve covers of its 3.0-L V12 engine. There were only 34 of this car ever produced. And who knows when one of them may hit the auction house to break a world record once more.
