9.Patek Philippe 1895/1927 Yellow Gold Minute Repeating Wristwatch – $ 2.994 million
The Patek Philippe 1895/1927 Yellow Gold Minute Repeating Wristwatch is the most expensive one ever sold at a Sotheby auction.
Initially, the watch had a reserve price of only $600,000 but it surpassed the original price reaching a stunning $2.994 million.
The watch belonged to Henry Graves Jr. and it was the first watch that Patek made for him.
This is the only one of the four delivered to Graves which had its case made of yellow gold and the back of it is engraved in Graves’ coat of arms and motto: “Esse Quam Videri” which means “To be rather than to seem.”
The watch continues to amaze through its complexity and stunning elaborate movement.
