13. George Steinmetz
George Steinmetz’s aerial photographs are famous all over the world, making him a regular contributor to National Geographic since 1986, and one of the highest paid photographers in the world.
Steinmetz developed his interest in photography while hitchhiking around Africa and capturing the landscapes he encountered. He has photographed the Gobi desert and Sahara desert from above, as well as 70 countries, using a paraglider. New York is the one exception, however, where he uses a helicopter to capture images from above.
His views from above have captured images that are never usually seen by people in galleries or the press.
