Guy Spends $9 Million on a Car Plate for his Rolls-Royce

Dubai-Based Guy Spent $9 Million on a License Plate for his Rolls Royce

Let’s find out more about this story: Guy Spent $9 Million on a License Plate!

the thing with a license plate is that when you buy a new car, someone else might already have the plate you wish for. What do you do when you have an expensive car and you are filthy rich? It’s easy; you spend more money to buy yourself a matching license plate.

Until now, I haven’t given more thought to this license plate thing, but as far as I can see, this is serious business.

And this Dubai-based Indian property developer is the perfect example for that statement.

While other people are focused on putting food on the table or just buying a nice car, this dude is focused on having an unique license plate. And he is willing to spend an enormous amount of money for it!

“I always like to give myself a gift every year,” Sahni told CNN Money. “When you work very hard, you need to present yourself something.”

Balwinder Sahni spent US$9 million on a unique number ‘5’ license plate. According to CNN, he bought the plate at a government auction.

Moreover, last year, at a similar auction, he paid almost US$7 million of a number ‘9’ plate. Maybe the businessman wanted to match his expensive car with an expensive car plate. Apparently, the lower the single-digit number on the front of the government-issued plate, the better.

You might think that this guy is a high-roller who likes living the high life and such, but in fact he considers himself ‘a simple man’. But these two Rolls-Royce cars with single digit license plates say otherwise.

He also believes that the amount of money he spent is some sort of charity, a contribution he gives to the UAE government auctions as a public service.

“I believe in giving back,” he told CNN. “This city has given me a lot.”

Let me mention that this guy is one of the several elite businessmen in the United Arab Emirates who spent big money on single digit license plates.

In fact, in 2008, another businessman from United Arab Emirates paid $14 million at a charity auction for a number ‘1’ plate.

Whenever is demand there is also a place for request, and already a secondary market is “making noise” across the various websites, where one has already sold a two-digit license plate for $735,000, declared a record.

The website’s co-founder Abdulkerim Arsanov told CNN that the extravagance of number plates have even exceeded that of cars.

“Number plates have become more luxurious than the cars themselves.”

Will you be willing to spend that kind of money just to have an unique license plate, the one you’ve always wanted? Let us know in the comments below!
