Omega takes advantage of Instagram to sell its first watch online: the “Speedy Tuesday” after gets inspired by social media’s power.
The Omega Speedmaster, a limited edition watch that was inspired by a social media phenomenon, now becomes the first Omega watch to be sold online.
Every Tuesday on Instagram more than 42,000 posts are uploaded with the hashtag #speedytuesday. Every watch enthusiast and Speedmaster owner upload their best photos, Tuesday topic that became kind of trendy.
In tribute to that and to make every collector and watch lover happy, Omega revealed a limited edition timepiece that has been specifically designed to sell on the internet.
“The return of OMEGA’s radial subdials is just one of the vintage touches in the watch.”
This limited edition model isn’t like the others; it contains some special things the others don’t have.
The Speedmaster “Speedy Tuesday” is driven by the hand-wound calibre 1861, virtually the same movement that powered the timepieces NASA’s astronauts wore on the moon. Built with a high-grade rhodium-plated finish, it represents an important step in the Speedmaster evolution.
First of all, is a Speedmaster model inspired by a social media phenomenon initiated by enthusiast Robert-Jan Broer, the founder of Fratello Watches, a popular blog that has encyclopedic amounts of information about our star here: the Omega Speedmaster.
Second, it is the first Omega watch to be officially sold online on other platform, Instagram, other than brand’s own website by Omega’s parent company Swatch Group.
And last, but not least, it offers a unique “Reverse Panda” dial, a dial that comprises silvery white chronograph counters against the backdrop of a pitch black dial, which is a long-awaited feature for Speedmaster lovers.
That feature was inspired by the look of the Alaska Project III model created for NASA in 1978. The first “Reverse Panda” was first used by Omega in 1966.
This time, it’s the return of the “Reverse Panda” first seen in 1966. White opaline-silvery subdials are set against a black dial, encircled with a bezel ring and tachymeter scale in matt-black aluminium. There is a rare appearance of the vintage OMEGA logo and all markings and radial subdials have been coated with bright luminescent ink.
This stainless steel timepiece, which comes with an extra NATO strap and strap-changing tool, is offered in a limited edition of 2,012 pieces.
Why? Because Broer started the hashtag #speedytuesday in the year 2012. For only $6,500 you can order the timepiece and also ask for the edition number you’d like.
Protecting the dial is a domed hesalite crystal with a central OMEGA logo. The caseback is stamped with the iconic seahorse medallion and encircled by the words SPEEDY TUESDAY ANNIVERSARY – A TRIBUTE TO ALASKA PROJECT III as well as the Limited Edition number. The word RADIAL circles the outer edge. Finally, the watch is presented on a brown leather strap with a vintage cut and stitching.
We advise you to hurry if you desire to purchase one because the #speedytuesday is only going to be here this time. There are no other chances!
