Britain’s most expensive houseboat is a former 1930s steel barge which was converted into an incredibly modern houseboat.
This luxurious boat moored on the Thames is on the market for approx. $4.7 million (£3,7 million).
You pay like six times more than the average home in the capital, but for that price you’ll get a range of luxurious features.
The interior of this houseboat is more than 5,000 square feet, which will give you plenty of room to have parties or just relax.
Also featured on the boat is an open plan upper deck for entertaining and five large double en-suite bedrooms in the lower deck that boats views of the St Katharine’s Dock close to Tower Bridge.
But the impressive central stairway, that leads between the two decks and gives access to a Jet Ski platform, got us to really love this houseboat.
As you can see, its interior looks more like a lavish penthouse than an old boat. “Never judge a book by its cover” it’s the perfect quote to describe the houseboat.
Interiors are kitted out in wooden cladding, white walls and luxurious fabrics, and wait for it, a sauna.
The decking can also be used for games such as trampolines and a tennis table.
The previous French owner of Matrix Islad has even left his table football, trampoline and table tennis equipment in the boat.
The boat is fitted with new wool carpet and LED lighting and has been repainted.
But the eventual buyer will have to stump up an £18,000-a-year maintenance and mooring charge.
The 128ft-long craft is on the books of the Riverhomes agency, whose head of houseboat sales, Nigel Day, said the market for prestige houseboats was increasing at a remarkable rate.
‘Houseboats have evolved from the narrowboats we are accustomed to seeing on Britain’s canals. The best examples are now floating mansions,’ he added.
‘They often measure over 5,000 square feet of living space and have every modern amenity. Bathrooms that resemble a spa now come as standard.
‘Inside they are almost indistinguishable from land built luxury homes but have the obvious advantage of the best views.’
