This Paris Navigating Gym Project is powered by Humans Working Out

With this Paris Navigating Gym project you will be able to see the landscapes while working out!

Soon relaxing while working out will be possible while you cruise along Seine River. How cool is that?

Human energy will be used as a form of renewable green energy; did you ever think that is going to happen?

Don’t think that humans are running like hamsters in a giant wheel. It is something similar though; the International design and innovation office Carlo Ratti Associati partners with Technogym, Terreform ONE and URBEM have joined forces to present to you the Paris Navigating Gym.

“The Paris Navigating Gym investigates the potential of harnessing human power,” Carlo Ratti, founding partner of Ratti Associati said. “It’s fascinating to see how energy generated by a workout gym can actually help to propel a boat. It provides one with a tangible experience of what lies behind the often abstract notion of ‘electric power.’”

The Paris Navigating Gym project is a fitness vessel that moves along the Seine River by harnessing the energy from passenger’s workouts.

Although is only a concept for now, the project’s intention is that it can host up to 45 people.

The fitness area includes Technogym’s ARTIS machines, machines that are a special type of sports equipment that harnesses human energy which can be used for other purposes.

With two types of equipment available on the boat like bike and cross trainers, gym enthusiastic will be thrilled once the project takes up.

As you can see, this floating gym will be more sophisticated than an oversized pedal boat.

By going to this gym and giving their best workout, humans can contribute to powering the boat.

Human powered energy will be supplemented by renewables, such as photovoltaic cells on the gym roof. The Paris Navigating Gym will sail along the Seine on its route through the city, activated by electric propellers.

Its current design takes its inspiration from the symbolic Bateaux Mouches, the traditional ferryboats that have been carrying people on the Seine River since the early 20th century.

The Navigating Gym will allow people to sail on the river all year long. Aside from the unique way of sightseeing or traveling from point A to point B in the French capital, this boat is also environmentally friendly, as it only works based on human strength and burned calories.

Augmented-reality screens installed on the boat will show guests both the quantity of energy sourced from the workout, as well as data about the Seine’s environmental conditions, tracked in real time by sensors incorporated on the vessel.

The gym is encased within a transparent glass covering, which is open in summer and gives view of the city and at night, the boat can be used for parties.

Furthermore, fitness enthusiasts can keep track of their energy data and the outdoor conditions thanks to an augmented reality screen that displays real-time information.

The Paris Navigating Gym can be implemented in less than 18 months, including design, construction, and testing, before starting its cruise to celebrate human power.

What do you think? Would you want to work out on a floating gym?
