The word “corrupt” itself means utterly broken. When a country is corrupt, it means that the problem has reached its core and it is hard to exterminate.
Commonly, this corruption problem has been going on for decades. Therefore, it becomes a chain of corruption. It is not conducted just by a few people. But the whole system is involved.
Transparency International, the global coalition against corruption organization, releases a list of countries with the corruption perception index (CPI) every year. Based on that, here are the top 20 most corrupt countries in 2015.
20. Myanmar
The Transparency International list ranked 168 countries and territories in 2015. A country or territory’s score indicates the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).
Myanmar is ranked 147th alongside Chad and Democratic Republic of Congo with the score 22. In 2012, this country had a score of 15. It got better within the last three years.
In Myanmar, corruption is considered to be flourishing in every sector of its business and government. This has become a serious barrier to invest in the country.
This high corruption level is the result of the country’s tradition in nepotism. It is common to use personal connections. Besides, the civil servants are paid with low rates, making them vulnerable towards bribery.
