Prada Spring/Summer 2015 Ad Campaign Brings Psychedelic Vision
I don’t know about what the jury of the 87th Oscars was talking, but I would’ve awarded an Oscar in no time for Prada’s Spring/Summer 2015 Ad Campaign.
The campaigns brings out to light a controversial campaign, an original vision that reveals contradictory moods.
With Steven Meisel as a photographer and DJA’s film direction, Prada succeeded by far to create the most striking and creative advertising campaign this year for Spring/Summer.
Everything resulted in a series of videos trying to picture three different moods: Stoic, Psychedelic and Intimate. And of course, not anyone could’ve played these parts, so they’ve chosen from the best: the resurrected star Gemma Ward, Julia Nobis and Ine Neefs.
But, there was also a supporting actor in every video portrayed by the season’s bags, also in contradictory situations: whether alongside the models or standing on their own as if they were abandoned.
The main concept of the campaign was to explain the image of the Prada woman. A powerful sophisticated woman that is careless and messy, but still totally in control as the fashion house explains:
Within each image, the many facets of the Prada woman shift and overlap, part of an interconnected and contradictory story
This explains the artistic images of luxurious houses with a fashionable chaos inside: a handbag next to a dripping bouquet of flowers, a jacket tossed in the sink and so on.
Stoic
The Stoic video is probably the most expressive and powerful of the series. A black and white movie showing Ina Neefs as the strong woman with messy strands of sweaty hair spread on her forehead acting on the beats of Spirit – The Other Song.
Apparently, Prada asked personally for ’70s psych-soul music for this movie, so music supervisor Jack Derbyshire found the perfect occasion to infiltrate his favorite song as he confessed:
It’s not very often that you’re able to sync a personal favourite song, but this was one of those rare occasions.
Psychedelic
The only video bursting with colors from the series brings beautiful Julia Nobis in a psychedelic video with a pastel graffiti backdrop. Styled by Olivier Rizzo, she’s got some trippy moves on the beats of Arca – Anaesthetic, soundtrack that Jack says it’s:
raw, sensual, and intoxicating
Intimate
Finally, the Intimate video which brings us once again Gemma Ward wandering alone in her apartment, looking at photos and bringing old memories back to life. The video alternates from black and white frames to reviving the colors.
Jack also explains the music of Richard Day playing in the background:
From the outset we knew this particular film needed a piece of music tailor made. It needed to be mysterious, sexy and playful. The tempo was key in adding to the curiosity.
