Oprah Winfrey Net Worth: How rich is Oprah Winfrey? & How much money is Oprah Winfrey worth? Time to find out!

Oprah Winfrey is an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer, and philanthropist, and her current net worth is $3 billion.

Best known for her talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show, which was the highest-rated television program of its kind in history, Oprah is one of the most influential public figures in the U.S.

Born in Mississippi and spent her teenage years between her mother’s house in Milwaukee and her father’s in Nashville, where she moved when she was 14 years old, Oprah has proved that is an unstoppable force with a big heart and a lot of kindness.

Growing up she used to work at a Nashville radio station, and there was where she found her called.

To attend Tennessee State University, she worked hard to get a scholarship there, but left before graduation to take a job at a TV news station in Nashville.

When she was around 20 years old, she moved to Baltimore to anchor WJZ’s nightly news hour. Back then her salary was $22,000, which is about $93,000 in today’s money according to Baltimore Magazine.

Soon after that she became co-host of a new TV show called “People Are Talking”, where she appeared alongside newsman Richard Sher.

“From that first day, I knew instantly this is what I was supposed to do,” Oprah told Baltimore Magazine. “I felt like I had come home to myself.” Oprah and Sher had great chemistry together, and within months turned the program into a hit.

Then in 1983 she found out that the morning show “A.M. Chicago” was looking for a new host. She was hired right after sending in the audition tape.

Soon, Oprah had pushed “A.M Chicago” from last to first place in ratings. It was also the city where she met the love of her life, Stedman Graham, whom she’s still in a relationship with today.

As she was going on the show her popularity grew and soon she has already won the hearts of all her audience in Chicago, which also opened new opportunities for her, including landing a role in Steven Spielberg’s The Color Purple.

She has received Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for the role.

The success of the AM Chicago and her nominations for Spielberg’s movie, made Oprah expand her show to an hour, re-brand it as “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and nationally syndicate it to 120 channels in 1986.

In its first season, the show’s audience grew to 10 million, grossing around $125 million, $30 million of which went to her net worth.

The show’s success carried on throughout the late ‘80s and 90s, during which it owned daytime TV.

By the time she removed herself from consideration for Daytime Emmys in 1999, she and “The Oprah Winfrey Show” had rounded up 17 Emmy wins.

In 2000 she launched the successful O, The Oprah Magazine, and by 2003 she was already the first black woman to become a billionaire.

Her show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, continued to air and rule daytime ratings, until 2012 when it ended after 25 seasons.

But that didn’t mean that she was going to retire; in 2011 she launched her own TV network, The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

With the money she made over the years she used it to purchase many properties, like her Montecito, California mansion that she paid about $50 million for in 2001.

Today she still continues to run O, The Oprah Magazine and OWN, which turned to be profitable in 2013 and still growing despite the initial disappointing ratings. She is currently the richest black American in the world, according to Forbes.
