Jennifer Lopez is an American singer, actress, dancer, fashion designer, author, and producer and her current net worth is $400 million.
Born in the Castle Hill neighborhood of The Bronx, New York as the child of Puerto Rican parents Guadalupe Rodriguez and David Lopez, J.LO is one of the most successful artists in the world right now.
When she was born, her parents were living in a small apartment, but a few years later they moved into a two-story house, which was a big deal for the relatively poor family.
At the age of five, Jennifer began singing and dancing lessons and by the time when she was seven years old, she has already gone touring with her school in New York.
She was enrolled in Catholic schools her entire academic career, the same school where she did gymnastics, ran track on a national level, and was a member of the softball team.
She excelled athletically rather than academically, competing in national track championships.
When she was in the final high school year, she found out about a film casting that was looking several teenage girls for small roles and took the opportunity to audition.
She was cast as Myra a young woman at a center for troubled girls, in a low-budget film co-written and directed by Connie Kaiserman named My Littler Girl (1986).
There was when she realized that she wanted to become a ‘famous movie star’, but not to upset her parents she entered in Baruch College, only to drop out after one semester.
Then talked to her parents about her dream of becoming a movie star but they insisted that it was a “really stupid” idea and that “no Latinos did that”.
Of course she did not agree with them and move out of their family home and into an apartment in Manhattan. She performed in regional productions of the musicals Jesus Christ Superstar and Oklahoma!, and from there she was hired for the chorus in Golden Musicals of Broadway.
She toured with them in Europe for five months before realizing that she wasn’t happy with the role. Later got a job on the show Synchronicity in Japan, where she played as a dancer, singer, and choreographer.
Lopez got her first serious job as a Fly Girl dancer on In Living Color in 1991, where she stayed a regular until decided it was the time to pursue an acting career.
Her first leading role was in the Selena biopic of the same name in 1997, and she did a great job that got her a Golden Globe nomination.
On the following year, when played in Out of Sight, she became the first Latina actress to earn over $1 million for a film.
In 1999 she entered into the music industry with her debut studio album “on the 6”, proceeded by the number-one single “If You Had My Love”.
With the release of both her second album and her film The Wedding Planner in 2001, Lopez became the first woman to have a number one album and film in the same week.
After a second divorce, a relationship with Ben Affleck that strongly affected her next album, she married her long-time friend Marc Antony and rebounded with the box office success “Shall We Dance?”(2004), and “Monster-in-Law” (2005).
In 2008 she gave birth to twins, after a troubled time in her career. Returned to the stage and the big success followed her in 2011, as the judge on American Idol and most commercially successful single to date “On the Floor”, which is also one of the best-selling singles of all time.
In 2016 she began portraying Harlee Santos in the crime drama series Shades of Blue, which was renowned for its second season.
Her films grossed over $2.89 billion and with global records sales exceeding 80 million, she is known as the most influential Hispanic performer in the United States, as well as the highest-paid Latin entertainer.
Beyond entertainment, she has a successful career consisting of several clothing lines, accessories, fragrances, a production company, and a charitable foundation, among others.
