Sean Combs is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, record producer and entrepreneur, and his current net worth is $820 million.
Born in Harlem in Manhattan, New York City to his mother Janice, a model and teacher’s assistant, and his father, Melvin Earl Combs, an associate of convicted New York drug dealer Frank Lucas.
When his father was 33 years old, he was shot to death while sitting in his car on Central Park West. This happened when Sean was just a child.
He went to the Roman Catholic Mount Saint Michael Academy and graduated in 1987. Combs was a football player for the academy and his team won a division title in 1986.
He mentioned that he got the nickname “Puff” when he was a kid because he would “huff and puff” every time he was angry.
Before founding his own label Bad Boy Entertainment back in 1993, he used to work as a talent director at Uptown Records.
In 1997 he released his debut album, No Way Out, which recieved seven times platinum. After that, more success followed and three more albums.
Then in 2009 he started the musical group Diddy (Dirty Money) and released the commercially successful album Last Train to Paris, a year later.
He is the winner of three Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards. He is also the producer of MTV’s “Making the Band”.
Apart from his music, Sean also has other business ventures which include the clothing lines Sean John and “Sean by Sean Combs”. For the brands he won a Council of Fashion Designers of America award.
Other ventures include a movie production company, and two restaurants.
Back to his music career, in the following years he kept releasing albums, singles, and several mixtapes, among others.
Last year he announced that after the release of his last album and tour, Diddy plans to retire from music and focus on his acting career.
In February 2015, Combs teamed up with actor Mark Wahlberg and Ronald Burkle, to buy a majority holding in Aquahydrate, a calorie-free beverage for athletes.
Combs has six children whom he is spoils every time he gets the chance. Two of his sons appeared on MTV’s My Super Sweet 16 because he threw them a celebrity-studded party and gave them expensive cars.
But he is also the founder of Daddy’s House Social Programs, a foundation that helps inner city youth with programs like tutoring, life skills classes, and an annual summer camp.
Along with Jay-Z, he donated $1 million to help support victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He has also donated clothing items from his Sean John line to victims. Combs donated computers and books to New York schools.
