Shania Twain is a Canadian singer and songwriter and her current net worth is $400 million.
Born as Eilleen Regina Edwards in Windsor, Ontario to Sharon and Clarence Edwards, she moved to Timmins with her mother after her parents divorced.
Her mother married Jerry Twain, an Ojibwa from the nearby Mattagami First Nation, and they had a son together. He ended up adopting Shania and her sister.
Growing up, she had a though childhood with her parents earning little money and little food.
She even learned to hunt and to chop wood because she had to.
The singer started singing at bars at the age of eight just to try to earn some extra money to help her family.
At 10 she already wrote her first song, Is Love a Rose and Just Like the Storybooks, both fairytales in rhyme.
She mentioned that she liked the art of creating, of writing songs. Three years later CBC television’s the Tommy Hunter show invited her to perform on the show.
She used to be the singer for a local band called Longshot which covered Top 40 music, while attending Timmins High and Vocational School in Timmins.
Twain used to spend time working for her father’s reforestation business in Ontario.
So far she sold over 85 million records, making her the best-selling female artist in the history of country music. She is also one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
Her success garnered her several honorific titles including the “Queen of Country Pop”, with her second album brining her international success.
Her third album became the best-selling studio album of all time by a female act in any genre and best-selling country album.
For her work she has received five Grammy Awards, 27 BMI Songwriter awards, stars in Canada’s Walk of Fame as well as the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 2015, Twain returned to the road for what she has billed as her farewell tour. The Rock This Country tour kicked off on June 5, 2015 in Seattle, Washington.
