Shakira Net Worth: How rich is Shakira? & How much money is Shakira worth? Time to find out!
Shakira is a Colombian singer, songwriter, dancer, and record producer and her current net worth is $330 million.
Born in Barranquilla, Colombia as the only child of William Mebarak Chadid and Nidia Ripoll Torrado, she has Spanish and Italian ancestry from her mother.
Her name, Shakira is Arabic and it means “grateful”, the feminine form of the name Shakir.
She has eight older half-siblings from her father’s previous marriage.
Growing up she spent most of her time in Barranquilla, a place located in the northern Caribbean coast of Colombia. There is where she wrote her first poem, La Rosa de Cristal/The Cristal Rose, at the age of four.
She became fascinated to watch her father writing stories on a typewriter, and as a Christmas gift she asked for one.
At seven years old she received that typewriter and kept writing poetry since then, with her poems later evolving into songs.
At eight years old she wrote her first song, Tus gafas oscuras/ Your Dark Glasse, a song inspired by her father who wore dark glasses to hide his grief for his lost son.
She knew she wanted to become a performer since the age of four, when her father took her to a local Middle Easter restaurant. There she first heard the doumbek, a traditional drum used in Arabic music.
She started dancing on the table and since then she knew she wanted to become a performer.
At school, she enjoyed singing for schoolmates and teachers at her Catholic school. However, in second grade she didn’t get into the school choir because of her strong vibrato.
The music teacher told her that she sounded “like a goat”. Between the ages of 10 and 13 Shakira became famous in Barranquilla after participating in various events.
Around that time she met local theater producer Monica Ariza, who impressed with her tried to help her career.
During a flight from Barranquilla to Bogotá, Ariza convinced Sony Colombia executive Ciro Vargas to hold an audition for Shakira in a hotel lobby.
Vargas set up an audition in Bogotá, convinced of her talent and arranged for Sony Colombia executives to be a part of that audition.
She performed three songs for the executives and impressed them right away, and signed to record three albums.
The Colombian singer then released her first studio albums, which failed to attain commercial success.
But rose to fame thanks with her major-label debut, Pies Descalzos in 1996 and with her fourth album.
She broke the barrier to the English-language market with her fifth album, Laundry Service and with the release of its single, Whenever, Wherever.
Then other albums followed and her success became to spread internationally.
Shakira’s eighth and ninth albums, She Wolf (2009) and Sale el Sol (2010), received critical praise.
For her career she has received many awards and nominations including five MTV Video Music Awards and two Grammy Awards.
