Usher is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor and his current net worth is $200 million.
Born in Dallas, Texas as the son of Jonetta Patton and Usher Raymond III, he spent most of his childhood in Chattanooga.
One year after his birth his father left the family and he grew up with his mom, then-stepfather, and half-brother.
At nine years old he joined the local church youth choir, a choir directed by his mother.
There, his grandmother discovered his ability to sing, but she didn’t expect him to perform professionally until he joined a singing group.
His family moved to Georgia, a perfect environment for beginning singers, to support his talent.
While there, he went to North Springs High School. At 10, he joined an R&B band called the NuBeginnings. He quite some time with them, and recorded 10 songs, and one album.
At 13, he met A.J. Alexander at a local talent show in Atlanta. Since then, Alexander took Usher with him everywhere and let him perform in parking lots and talents shows.
One time, he invited Bryant Reid from LaFace Records, to see Usher sing on Star Search. After the performance, he got an audition with L.A. Reid, the co-founder of LaFace.
Reid signed Usher on spot to a contract with the record company, after hearing him perform End of the Road by Boyz II Men.
His mother, after quitting her job as medical technician, started to manage his career until their relationship as manager-client broke in 2007.
He started to become famous after the song, Call me a Mack, which he recorded for the soundtrack of 1993 film, Poetic Justice.
Right before he released his debut album, Usher had lost his voice because of his puberty.
Reid became skeptical about his performance, and put his recording on hold thinking about dropping him from the label.
He didn’t know what to do with Usher so he sent him to live with Puff Daddy. While there, he noticed that Daddy always had cute girls around.
A while after the production company released Usher’s self-titled album, co-produced by Sean P Diddy Combs.
He had his breakthrough in the late 1990s after the release of his sophomore album My Way, which became his first US Billboard Hot 100 #1 Single.
To date, he has sold over 43 million albums and 75 million records overall, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
Today, he is the founder of his own record label Raymond-Braun Media Group, a joint venture with talent manager Scooter Braun.
