Born in New York City, as the son of Lillian and Hugh Hannity, he grew up in Franklin Square, New York.
While there, he attended Sacred Heart Seminary in Hempstead, New York, during his middle school years. Then, he went to St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary high school in Uniondale, New York.
After dropping out of the New York University and Adelphi University, he went to New England Institute of Technology at Warwick, Rhode Island.
How did Sean Hannity start his career?
In the 1989 he hosted his first radio show at the volunteer college station at UC Santa Barbara, KCSB-FM. Meanwhile, he worked as a general contractor.
His show aired for 40 hours of air time and after less than a year the show on KCSB was cancelled.
Prior the show’s cancelation, he did two shows featuring the book The AIDS Coverup: The Real and Alarming Facts about AIDS by Gene Antonio. The book is one of the other remarks he made during the show.
After these hurtful and honest remarks, the station later reversed its decision to dismiss Hannity, because of a campaign led by the Santa Barbara chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.
Hannity decided against returning to KCSB. Upon leaving the station, he placed an ad in radio publications presenting himself as ‘the most talked about college radio host in America’.
How did Sean Hannity get famous?
After receiving an offer from radio station WVNN in Athens, Alabama, he went to work for them as the afternoon talk show host.
From there, he went to live in Atlanta and work for WGST, filling the slot vacated by Neal Boortz, who moved to competing station WSB.
Then he became the host of a television program under the working title Hannity and LTBD, after the Fox News co-founder Roger Alies hired him.
Then Roger Alies hired Alan Colmes to co-host the show, which debuted as Hannity & Colmes.
After a while, he left the station for New York, where WABC had him replace their afternoon drive time host during Christmas week.
Later on, the show put him on the air full-time, which allowed him the late night time slot.
WABC then moved Hannity to the same drive time slot he had filled temporarily a little more than a year earlier.
He worked for WABC’s afternoon time slot until the end of 2013. After which, he moved to WOR in New York City to host their 3-6 pm time slot.
