Dave Chappelle is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer and his current net worth is $42 million.
Born in Washington, D.C., as the youngest of three children of William David Chappelle III, a statistician and professor, and Yvonne Chappelle, a professor, he grew up in Maryland.
While there, he attended Woodlin Elementary School. Because of his parents’ involvement in politics, famous individuals such as Pete Seeger and Johnny Hartman visited their home.
They predicted that Chappelle would become a comedian. During this time, he drew his comedic inspiration from Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor.
Then his parents separated and he went to live with his mother in Washington, while spending summers with his dad in Ohio.
Later, he graduated from Washington’s Duke Ellington School of Arts, where he studied theatre acts.
A while after, he decided to move to New York City to pursue a career in stand-up comedy.
While in New York, he performed at Harlem’s famed Apollo Theater in from of the infamous Amateur Night audience. The same audience who booed him off stage.
But instead of giving up, he took this experience and turned it into something positive.

The bad experience only gave him courage to continue his show business aspirations, and quickly became known on the New York comedy circuit.
Chappelle even performed in the city’s parks, and Whoopi Goldberg nicknamed him The Kid.
Then at 19 he made his debut in the cinema world as Ahchoo, in Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
From there, his appearances in the movies continued, and he also appeared on Star Search three times, but lost.
During the same year, he received an offer to play Benjamin Buford “Bubba” Blue in Forrest Gump, but he turned down the part.
He continued to appear in films like Getting in, but also served as the opening act for R&B soul singer Aretha Franklin.
Chappelle’s performances attracted the attention of TV network executives and together they developed numerous pilots, but none turned into a series.
Because of his appearance in Home Improvement, where he and his real-life friend Jim Breuer asked the host for advice on their girlfriends, made the network to give them their own spin-off sitcom named Buddies.
The show premiered in 1996, with low ratings, with Christopher Gartin, instead of Jim Breuer.
He tried to get into another pilot, but the network was uncomfortable with the African-American cast, which made him accused them of racism.
Shortly after, he returned to Ohio because his father died, and decided to quit the entertainment business.
Then in 1996 comedy The Nutty Professor, a film which grossed $129 million at box office, alongside Eddie Murphy, he appeared as a nightclub comedian.

Because of his minor roles in various TV shows and films, he recorded his first hour-long HBO special, Dave Chappelle: Killin’ Them Softly.
During the same period, he released his weekly sketch comedy show on Comedy Central called Chappelle’s Show.
Due to the show’s popularity, Comedy Central’s new parent company Viacom reportedly offered Chappelle a $55 million contract, to continue for two more years.
That same month, Chappelle recorded his second comedy special, this time airing on Showtime, Dave Chappelle: For What It’s Worth.
The show continues to run in late-night syndication and on television networks around the world.
In 2006 Esquire named him the ‘comic genius of America’ and in 2013, ‘the best’ by a Billboard writer.
