Steve Wozniak is an American inventor, electronics engineer, programmer, philanthropist, and technology entrepreneur and his current net worth is $100 million.

Born in San Jose, California, Steve is the son of Margaret Elaine and Jacob Francis Wozniak.

People often referred to him as Woz, The Wonderful Wizard of Woz, The Second Steve, or The Woz, WoZ, Berkeley Blue.

Before he made a blue box and became known as Berkeley Blue, the University of Colorado Boulder expelled him for hacking into their computer systems, and he had to go back to the Bay Area.

During the same period, he designed and built his Cream Soda computer with the help of his friend, Bill Fernandez.

A few years later he re-enrolled at the De Anza college, but transferred to University of California. This happened way before he focused his attention on Apple, when he used to work at Hewlett-Packard.

Thanks to his friend Fernandez, he met Steve Jobs. Then both worked in the same place and eventually became friends.

Later, Atari offered Wozniak $100 (equivalent to $540 in 2017) to create a circuit board for the arcade video game Breakout. He made a deal with Steve Jobs to split the fee because of Jobs’ knowledge of circuit board design.

They built a device way too complex to be fully understandable at the time, for which Atari paid also a bonus of $5,000 a bonus that Wozniak didn’t know about until ten years later.

At 25 years old Wozniak created his first working prototype, a first in history to display character on a TV screen generated by a home computer.

With this complex design, he and Jobs wanted to impress the members of the Palo Alto-Based Homebrew Computer Club, the local group of electronics hobbyists interested in computing.

How did Steve Wozniak get famous?

A year later he created a computer all by himself, one that eventually made him famous. He designed the hardware, circuit board designs, and operating system for Apple I.  Meanwhile Jobs came up with the idea to sell it as a fully assembled printed circuit board.

Long story short, the Apple I sold for $666.66 and a year later they established Apple Computer, with the help of supervisor Ronald Wayne, a third partner.

Wozniak resigned from his job and after the huge success of Apple I, he started developing Apple II. The computer became the first personal computer which had the ability to display color graphics, and BASIC programming language built-in.

Eventually Apple II became one of the first highly successful mass-produced personal computers.

Wozniak took a break from Apple Computers after he had a plane crash, which caused him to lose his memory.

According to him, Apple II computer games helped him regain his memory. Upon his returning at Apple, he felt his contribution was no longer needed and left the company again.

After he left the company, Steve wanted to complete his degree and enrolled at UC Berkeley under the name Rocky Raccoon Clark.

How does Steve Wozniak make money?

Meanwhile, he helped develop and establish various companies like Wheels of Zeus, Acquicor Technology, among others.

Years after he left Apple Computers, he is still an employee of the company as well as a shareholder. He receives a monthly amount of money estimated around $120,000.

Wozniak has also provided all the money, as well as a good amount of on-site technical support, for the technology program in his local school district.
