Tom Jones Net Worth: How rich is Tom Jones? & How much money is Tom Jones worth? Time to find out!

Tom Jones is a Welsh singer and his current net worth is $300 million.

Born as Thomas John Woodward in Glamorgan, South Wales, to Thomas Woodward, a coal miner and Freda Jones, he is of English and Welsh ancestry.

Growing up, he went to Wood Road Infants School, Wood Road Junior School, as well as Pontypridd Central Secondary Modern School.

He started singing while still a kid at family gatherings, weddings and in his school choir.

While attending school, he didn’t like school nor sports but gained confidence through his singing voice.

For his singing style, which is bluesy, he took inspiration out of the sound of American soul music.

Among his early influences are artists like Little Richard, Solomon Burke, as well as Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis.

He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Trenchard, at age of 16, when they expected a child. Their son, Mark, came into the world in the month before their wedding.

To make some extra cash he took a job working in a glove factory, and used to work in construction as well.

People used to describe his singing voice as a “full-throated, robust baritone”.

He started his career as the frontman for Tommy Scott and the Senators, in 1963.

The Welsh beat group gained local recognition and reputation in South Wales pretty quick.

A year later the group already recorded several solo songs with producer Joe Meek, who took them to various labels. The band had little success.

The same year, Decca producer, Peter Sullivan, saw the band playing in a club and referred them to manager Phil Solomon. The partnership didn’t work for long.

The band continued to play at dance halls and working men’s clubs all over the South Wales. A London-based manager saw Jones performing and shortly after became his manager.

He also renamed him Tom Jones to exploit the popularity of the 1963 film.

His popularity began to grow after he got a recording deal with Decca. His first single, Chills and Fever, released in 1964, did not chart, but the follow-up did.

The follow-up, It’s Not Unusual, became an international hit after Radio Caroline promoted it. Still remains popular after all this time.

The next year he became one of the most popular vocalists of the British Invasion.

In the 1965 Jones recorded a number of film soundtracks including the themes for What’s New Pussycat?, as well as for the James Bond film Thunderball.

He received a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1966.

After his popularity slipped a little, his manager decided to change his image into that of a crooner.

There Jones started to sign material for a wider audience, as the country hit Green Green Gras of Home.

The strategy functioned and he returned on top of the charts in the UK and started hitting the tops in the US again.

His career, spanned through six decades, has seen him as a vocalist in the mid-1960s, as well as a performer in Las Vegas. He is also a coach on The Voice UK since 2012, with a break of a few years.

Jones has sold over 100 million records with thirty-six Top 40 hits in the United Kingdom and nineteen in the United States.
