Among his musical influences he cites Jimi Hendrix, Camp Lo, The Notorious B.I.G, and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.

When the president of Rostrum Records finally met him, he decided on spot that he wants to work with him.

He signed to the label and immediately started a seven-year contract of artist development.

In 2005 he released his first mixtape titled Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania.

Thanks to the mixtape, which did great in charts, he released his first full-length album named Show and Prove in 2006.

Rolling Stone declared him, the same year, an “artist to watch”.

In 2007 he signed a recording deal with Warner Bros. Records and released two mixtapes, Grow Season, hosted by DJ Green Lantern and Prince of the City 2.

His debut single under the record label, Say Yeah, reached #25 on the Billboard Rhythmic Top 40 chart as well as #20 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Tracks.

Later he released Star Power and Flight School mixtapes on Rostrum Records.

He parted ways with Warner Bros Records after several delays in releasing his debut album under the label’s mark, First Flight.

Along with Girl Talk, Modey Lemon, Donora, Grand Buffet, and Don Caballero he appeared at the Amphitheatre at Station Square in Pittsburgh.

After few other mixtapes released he released his second album, Deal or No Deal, in 2009.

In 2010 on MTV he confirmed that he signed with Atlantic Records.

The same year, Khalifa declined an invitation to tour with Drake and released his own Waken Baken Tour, a 50-city national tour with rapper Yelawolf.

The tour, scheduled to last from September to November 2010, has, as of October, sold out every venue.

During one of his performances on Waken Baken tour at East Carolina University, police arrested him for possession and trafficking of marijuana.

He got out the next morning after paying a $300,000 bail, and continued with his tour.

The song peaked at number one in various charts. In 2011 he released his debut album under the Atlantic Records label.

He has his own record label, Taylor Gang Records, named after his love of Chuck Taylor All-Stars.

In 2012 he released his second studio album, Only Nigga In First Class, but released under the O.N.I.F.C, because of mainstream markets.
