Last time when we talked about a Rolls-Royce Phantom was when a hotel in Macau commissioned 30 cars for their hotel, and two gold-plated ones among them for their elite clientele.
Unfortunately for the Rolls-Royce Phantom is the end of an era, as the seventh generation of the model stops production at the company’s factory in Goodwood, Sussex.
However, we know that the Phantom’s history spans nearly a century and this is probably not the end of the model, as the company already announced plans to build a new car with the same name.
That new car will be a replacement for this Mark VII model, which was released in 2003 and has had its ups and downs over a decade.
The model was the first Rolls-Royce to be released under the care of BMW, and stood for a significant change from what the cars under the name of Rolls-Royce had been doing until that point.
Five models have emerged since then, with the Phantom Drophead Coupé, Phantom Coupé, Ghost, Wraith and last year’s Dawn being built at the Goodwood headquarters.
Another reason why they turned down the production is because of the sales.
Yes, Rolls-Royce’s sale dropped from the low hundreds into a four figures almost immediately.
They were aiming for new, global elite with the 2003 Phantom which had 6.75-litre V12 engine, a 140.6-inch wheelbase, and was that kind of ride that gives you the impression that you are always walking on the red carpet.
But, being a Roller, this is no normal car. The final seventh-generation Phantom has a nautical theme created for a ‘renowned contemporary Rolls-Royce collector’.
The attention to detail in the Phantom is exquisite – even the door panels look like pieces of art.
To continue the sea theme, the lambswool carpets have been hand-cut with a wake effect and even the ‘Blue Velvet’ paint and powder blue leather upholstery are a nod to the color of the ocean.
The ‘Blue Velvet’ exterior paint is designed to replicate the ocean color. It is contrasted by silver coach lines, tire stripes and an all-silver Spirit of Ecstasy rising from the grille.
The Phantom VIII is will be released later this year ahead of its launch in 2018 along with the all-new Cullinan 4X4.
