The Creator of Rihanna’s Naked Dress Designs Retro Cat Eye Sunglasses
Write this down because you’re going to see a lot of these sunglasses at Hollywood from now on!
If the name Adam Selman doesn’t tell you anything, shame on you! This is the man that created Rihanna‘s memorable naked dress from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards in 2014 and that easily went down in history.
He is Rihanna’s trusted costume designer and not just that. The man is one of the favorite designers of celebrities, even the beloved style icon Beyoncé is obsessed with Selman’s creations.
Now, Adam Selman teamed up with the famous eyewear label Le Specs and launched a new retro-futuristic collection of sunglasses during the New York Fashion Week this month.
The brand new eyewear line features eight pieces of exaggerated cat-eye silhouettes covered in glitter accents inspired from the ’70s and flat-mask details from the ’80s.
For this retro collection, the Texas native designers was inspired by the classic movies that had an impact on him with memorable eyewear moments and actresses of Hollywood’s golden days as he says in an interview:
For me, it was Catherine Deneuve in The Hunger and Sue Lyon in Lolita. I wanted to blend the two to come up with something unique, modern, and striking.
Now if I’ll give you a chance to take a guess at the pieces’ names, I’m pretty sure you’re going to nail at least two of them.
But we’ll skip it for the moment and I’m going to tell you myself. So, it should be no surprise now when I tell you that the cat eye frames are named Playgirl, The Last Lolita and The Hunger.
And the best part? Every one of them is a pair of sunglasses that you can take absolutely everywhere – indoor and outdoor. Even Selman told himself to Instyle:
Wear them on a plane, in a boat, on a beach, by the pool, in the shade, in a club, on the street, the morning after, the night before, and tomorrow.
The collection was captured in a gorgeous photo shoot with a powerful retro vibe and everything there was styled by Rihanna’s personal stylist Mel Ottenberg.
One thing is certain though: when you combine all the memorable eyewear moments from Hollywood’s classic movies, there’s no way you can go wrong and not make a huge entrance in the show business with celebrities cheering you.
Each pair of these amazing retro-futuristic sunglasses sells for less than $119 and now there’s just one question left: when are we going to spot Rihanna strutting one of these pieces down the street?
