Are you going to see John Lennon’s Psychedelic Rolls Royce on display in London?
The car, customized for Lennon with a little help from his friends, is going back on tour in London.
If you find yourself in London in a couple of weeks, take a look at the Bonhams gallery for a chance to see the world’s most colorful Rolls Royce.
Right in the posh Mayfair district, where Lennon himself would go for a ride, you can find this psychedelic Phantom V.
The singer purchased the luxury car shortly before receiving the Member of the Order of the British Empire, one of the highest civilian honors, in 1965.
He purchased it black, but wanted the entire car repainted to match the artwork on the “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” album released in June 1967.
What kind of upgrades?
After repainting it in bright colors, Lennon went further with the customization. On his Rolls he put a phone, record player, a refrigerator, and a new stereo with external speakers.
He also converted the rear seat into a double bed.
After the repaint and customization he went and drove the car to Buckingham Palace to return his medal in protest of the Vietnam War. Then a year later, in 1970, he shipped the car to the United States.
Later, the singer and songwriter loaned the car to Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and The Moody Blues.
And now with the display in London is your chance to see a piece of history.
When?
At the Bonhams exhibition, in partnership with Rolls Royce, you’ll get to see Lennon’s Rolls Royce, in honor of the 50th anniversary of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
Also on display in London will be seven more famous Phantom models dating back to 1926, as part of the “Great Eight Phantoms” display.
